Tagua, also called vegetable ivory, is the nut of the Tagua Palm tree that grows primarily in the tropical rainforests of western Ecuador, Colombia and Peru. Every year each tree produces bushels of nuts that are gathered and dried, without harm to the rainforest. This natural plant product replaces animal ivory and provides families with a sustainable cash income.
Once dried, the nuts are purchased by artisans who cut and carve them into various shapes. Sometimes they are dyed in the many colors you see in our keychains.
